I Love My Job

I LOVE MY JOB . . . . .

If you don't laugh out loud after you read this you are in a coma! This

is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work think of this guy.

Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs.

Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to radio station 103.2 on FM dial in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won.

Hi Sue,

Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother.

Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all .

Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job.

As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wet suit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature.

It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints.

What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wet suit.  This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi.

Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my butt started to itch.  So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse.

Within a few seconds my butt started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened.

The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit.  Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfish couldn't stick to it  However, the crack of my butt was not as fortunate.

When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my butt.

I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five other divers, were all laughing hysterically.

Needless to say I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet.

As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my butt as soon as

I got in the chamber.

The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't poop for two days because my butt was swollen shut.

So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your butt.

Now repeat to yourself, "I love my job, I love my job, I love my job."

Now whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself, is this a jellyfish bad day?

May you NEVER have a jellyfish bad day!!!!!

The Absence of Truth

It's been awhile since I've been on here. Last night, I was watching a clip from Al Gore's global warming documentary - "An Inconvenient Truth". In the clip that I saw, he was illustrating how the levels of atmospheric concentration of CO2 is directly correlated to the earth's temperature. He showed a graph that illustrated thousands of years of CO2 and temperature levels here on earth - The truth is, there is a natural cycle existing that makes the earth warmer or colder throughout time.  But today, many are still refuting the fact that the warming the earth is experiencing today is man-made. The concentration levels of atmospheric CO2 is three times more than it's ever been in the history of the earth. It means if we don't stop our uncontrolled consumption of fossil fuels, the truth is - we're heading for a man-made catastrophe.

I was at mass one Sunday with my dad. The priest told a story how a journalist had asked the late Pope John Paul II what is the biggest problem in today's world? The late Pope's answer is 'the absence of truth'. We live in a world that deny's the truth to make more convenient for us to deal with. Like the title of Al Gore's documentary - the truth ain't always easy or convenient. The truth can be pretty brutal. Sometimes, we don't like it at all that we just ignore it.

The other day, I read a news story about lobby groups trying to get the US Food and Drug Administration to pull new generation birth control pills for women. These groups are not Pro-Life groups. The reason why they were lobbying because the truth is - the new generation birth control pill kills women. The truth is - these pills are foreign substances.  It doesn't matter if you're pro-choice or pro-life - not only do these drugs prevent life - you have to come to accept that it also takes it away. These new drugs, with a higher risk of blood clot complications, are attributed to the death of women already.

There is a greater truth behind this if you really think about it. Our bodies were created to function a certain way. We deny the truth of our bodies by forcing ourselves to take these drugs to alter the natural order it was meant to follow. The truth is - as a society - we deny this truth because we say everyone should have a choice. But what are we really choosing here? To be imprisoned by denying the truth?

Anyways, I'm not here to force a debate on any particular issue. I know there have been many truths in my own life that I have denied to deal with. I'm sure you can also think about your own truths that you have denied.
But as Pope John Paul II said, "the absence of truth is the greatest problem that humanity faces today." How many of us really embrace the truth and deal with it. Maybe that's the only time the world will really get better, when we embrace the truths of our lives and of this world God has given us and work together to deal with it and really make it better. But now, we still fight each other, fight ourselves, because we're all really just afraid of owning up to the truth.

The Heart of LIfe

Thanks John Mayer.....

I hate to see you cry
Laying there in that position
There's things you need to hear
So turn off your tears and listen

Pain throws you heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
No, it won't all go the way, it should
But I know the heart of life is good

You know it's nothing new
Bad news never had good timing
But then the circle of your friends
Will defend the silver lining

Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
No, it won't all go the way, it should
But I know the heart of life is good

Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
Fear is a friend who's misunderstood
But I know the heart of life is good

I know it's good

The Gift of Giving

Last Friday, we had our lauching of the Youth ANCOP CD - The Answer. Last night, I was reminded how real the cause is. I've been sponsoring a child for over two years now. He has written me occasionally and last night I received a Christmas card from him.

His name is Simon and he must be 10 years old now. In his card, he just wrote how thankful he is for all the help I have given. He wishes me a good christmas and happy new year.

I haven't written him back but I think I will. Next time I'm in the Philippines, I will try to see him.

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Give the gift of generosity.
